Sorolla, the Spanish Sargent Clyde Binfield Monday 16 September 2019

Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida excelled in landscapes, seascapes, sun-drenched work scenes, and - above all - portraits. The man, like his art, was a delight. Born in Valencia, the son of a tradesman, he died in Madrid, where his studio survives. He captivated Spain, was triumphant in France and wowed America. When he died he was buried in Valencia with full military honours.
